The eighth episode of the Mission: Impossible series has been postponed by a year, resulting in a new round of rescheduling for Hollywood studios due to the ongoing strike by actors, which has now exceeded three months.
Paramount Pictures made the decision on Monday to move the release date of the upcoming Mission: Impossible part two from June 28 to May 23, 2025. Production on the sequel to Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One came to a halt in July as Tom Cruise and his team focused on an extensive international promotional tour for Dead Reckoning. (Initially titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, it is now simply referred to as Mission: Impossible.)

Dead Reckoning managed to generate $567.5 million worldwide, falling short of the 2018 installment, Fallout, which grossed $791.7 million globally, as well as Tom Cruise's 2022 summer blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick, which raked in an impressive $1.5 billion. Despite receiving some of the best reviews in the franchise's 27-year history, the 163-minute action thriller was quickly overshadowed by the box office successes of Barbie and Oppenheimer.
As the labor unrest in Hollywood persists, it has increasingly disrupted the release plans not only for films set to premiere this fall and waiting for their stars to promote them (like Dune: Part Two, which has been postponed to March) but also for some of the highly anticipated big-screen productions slated for next year.
Several Marvel films have previously been pushed back, as has the third Venom installment. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, originally set for a March 2024 release, has now been delayed indefinitely.
In addition to these changes, Paramount announced on Monday that the release of A Quiet Place: Day One, a prequel to the post-apocalyptic horror series featuring Lupita Nyong'o, will be moved from its original March date to June 28, which was the initial release date for Dead Reckoning.
Negotiations between the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the studios are set to resume on Tuesday.
